Many of us wonder what to do when looking out on a winter’s day. Here is a short list of things to keep yourself busy and positive during these wintery days.
The trees reach up
No matter sun or rain or snow
Steadfast accepting,
They just know… time goes on, and seasons renew.
This morning I looked out on a cold, snowy January day and thought this would be the perfect time to send you a cheery note. We all need a little inspiration these days since the pandemic is still making it hard to get out with our friends and family. I tried to think of some things to do. Here are the top ten, depending on your mood.
- Clean House, clean out your closet, cupboards, and drawers. Water your house plants.
Check out this book for some tips. The Lost Art of House Cleaning, by Jan M. Dougherty - Bake gluten-free cookies, make popcorn, look in the fridge, and make supper plans.
- Binge-watch movies. Emma by Jane Austen is a 2020 adaptation and is rich in color and character.
- Learn something online, how to crochet or repair plumbing fixtures.
- Do crossword puzzles. Scrapbook your pictures.
- See who is on Facebook or Twitter, and start a Messenger or What’s App conversation. Send virtual hugs.
- Raid the freezer for ice cream. Take a load off your feet. Ignore it if your conscience tugs.
- Imagine some fantastic getaway. Make a long wish list, and don’t tell.
- Meditate, Pray, think Good Thoughts, and connect with your Angels.
- Read a good book.
- Embrace Your Inner Child. Dance around the living room to oldies music on YouTube.
- Read a child a story with Facetime or Zoom. You may like Butterfly Baby: Meets Mr. and Mrs. Toad is a children’s storybook I wrote with illustrations on each page.
Why not send someone a Cheery Note today? Maybe they are feeling good, maybe feeling sad. A simple line from you might make them know someone cares. Butterflies can teach us wonderful lessons. Read the blog about emergence and discovery.
And if you feel so inclined, you can always write a poem or two.
