We are all looking for meaning. Gifts for Valentine’s Day are as varied as the people giving and receiving them. Memories surrounding this cherished day can last a lifetime. Here is a story and a little inspiration in case you need some.
How great that a special day of the year is set aside to celebrate LOVE! Now more than ever, this song rings true.
“What the world needs now is love, sweet love
Song by Jackie DeShannon – Songwriters: Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of…
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No not just for some, but for everyone…”
Many a Valentine’s Day has come and gone; the memories linger, from exchanging funny cards with friends at school to memories of unique sweet treats at home. We all have some that are wonderful, heaven-sent, and sometimes strange.
Of course, there have been many things I’ve associated with Valentine’s Day over the years, from chocolates to flowers to birthday cakes and homemade chocolate pies. My most beautiful gift ever was having a child on Valentine’s Day. More than that, I won’t say here, for it is too special to reveal to the whole world.
I first learned about Valentine’s Day when I was, oh, probably, six years old. I was a curious little girl, and some new neighbors had just moved in next door. Of course, I visited our new neighbors, and the “lady of the house” was very welcoming. She showed me through her home, and I think some cookies were offered along the way, which endeared me to her.
On one of the walls was a beautiful large red velvet box shaped like a heart. Anne was her name; amazingly, I remember it after all these years! She explained that this was a gift from her husband for Valentine’s Day. It had been filled with delicious chocolates, but the box was so lovely she had decided to hang it up as a memento. For years afterward, Valentine’s Day for me was associated with large red velvet boxes.
