What Makes A Good Coach

So what makes a good coach anyway? They pull, they pry, they encourage, they goad you. Would you be where you are now if you had not had a coach or mentor? If you have had a good one, you know what it has done for you. Thank goodness for a good coach!

Looking back at your life and what influenced or inspired you is often only done later.

The new book, “I Believe in You,” by Tom Osborne and co-author Jefferson Knapp. Illustrated by Sergio Drumond. Published by Kraken Books Ltd. A coach that believes in you is invaluable. This book illustrates Coach Tom Osborn’s life and his impact on his students.

Tom Osborne is a former Nebraska Cornhuskers head football coach. He began his career as an American football player. Some of his accomplishments are:
National Champion (1970,1971)
Big Eight champion (1963–66,1969–72)
Walter Camp Coach of the Year (1971)
Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year (1971)
College Football Hall of Fame (inducted 1981)

Tom Osborne’s career included being a college athletics administrator and Nebraska politician. His most cherished role is that of a coach because this is where he could teach others how to endure and overcome hardships. Playing a game and winning in life require some of the same attitudes. Seeing the unique talents of those he coaches helps them find it themselves.

As the Nebraska Cornhuskers head football coach, he guided the Huskers to win back-to-back USA National titles in 1994, 1995, and 1997. The second school to win back-to-back perfect national championship seasons at that time. “Osborne’s last five Nebraska teams put together the best five-year run in college football history with an amazing 60-3 record, including five consecutive 11-win seasons”.

“I Believe in You” is a book written for children. Tom hopes this book, which includes many of his foundational principles, will inspire young people to uncover their unique talents.

Tom Osborne’s royalties for this book will go to the TeamMates Mentoring Program. Note: The blog’s author has no financial interest in this book. To purchase “I Believe in You,” see the page in Kraken Books.
